"And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness" (Acts 4:31).
In the early Church, spiritual boldness was a mark of those filled with the Holy Spirit. Even in the face of severe persecution, they didn't shrink in fear or retreat in silence: They preached the Gospel with boldness. When Peter and John were arrested and threatened not to speak in the Name of Jesus (Acts 4:3), they didn't cower but continued to speak boldly in the Name of the Lord.
When you study further into verse 8, it specifically tells us that Peter, being filled with the Spirit, began to expound the Gospel to the people, including the priests and the captain of the temple and the Sadducees. He spoke the Word with courage, clarity, and conviction, even in the face of persecution.
That same Spirit dwells in you and has made you a bold and effective minister of the Gospel: "Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think anything as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God; Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life" (2 Corinthians 3:5-6).
This boldness is a spiritual force. It comes from deep communion with God and a heart convinced of His truth. When you're full of the Word and full of the Spirit, you're never timid or reluctant to speak to anyone about Jesus. It's also one of the reasons you must pray fervently in tongues every so often. It edifies and emboldens you: "He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself..." (1 Corinthians 14:4).
Like the apostles, make prayer your launching pad. Remember what happened when they prayed in Acts 4:31; Power was released and boldness was stirred: "And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness" (Acts 4:31). Hallelujah! So, step out and speak up; the Holy Ghost is your advantage. You're bold in the Spirit!
Prayer
Dear Father, thank you for filling me with your Spirit. I speak your Word today with boldness, authority, and love. I'm fearless, unwavering, and fruitful in every opportunity to share the Gospel and bring many into the Kingdom, in Jesus' Name. Amen.
